Douglas Carter has spread his favours around many local sports clubs over the years and that was recognised when the Haywards Heath 77-year-old won the BBC Sussex Unsung Hero Award at the 10th annual Sussex Sports Awards at the Hilton Metropole in Brighton on Friday.
The current secretary of St Francis Bowls Club ran Hurstpierpoint FC for three years, was Haywards Heath Badminton Club secretary for nine years and for seven years arranged 92 matches a year for the Brighton & Hove Badminton League, which involved 32 clubs.
Nine years ago Douglas set up the Haywards Heath Rollers Short Mat Bowls Club.
