SLIMMERS have been losing weight but adding pounds to a church’s charity appeal.

A Slimming World group that meets every Monday at Fareham Methodist Church in Kings Road raised £100 through a sponsored six-week slimathon.

Group leader Carole Harris, of Hunts Pond Road, Titchfield Common, said the charity event inspired the group.

Mrs Harris, 40, said: ‘Doing it for a good cause really helped the members when they became demotivated’

Seventy members lost more than 19 stone between them to raise funds for the Holy Trinity Church’s High Time appeal.

The church needs to raise £500,000 to fix the clock, repair the tower and turn the church into a community hub for the town.

Mrs Harris added: ‘It’s an iconic building and more needs to be raised.’
