Chichester Camera Club’s annual advanced workers exhibition takes place over this weekend, January 16 and 17.

Spokeswoman Cath Walter said: “15 years ago the advanced members of Chichester Camera Club decided to set up the exhibition as a medium to display their more informal and, perhaps, experimental work without it being judged in any way, shape or form.

“Therefore, some of the work you see here will not be on the national and international circuits in the future but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good. This is seriously good stuff.

“Each entrant is given one or two exhibition stands, and they can fill them however they wish, be it in panel form or just a series of shots away from their normal entries into national and international competitions and salons.

“The exhibition is a place for the advanced workers to metaphorically let down their hair, free from the constraints of the current fashions of photography style. It is also a very sociable exhibition where visitors are encouraged to chat and linger over light refreshments.”

Cath continued: “Among the exhibitors every year are Iain McGowan, one of the exhibition’s founders and a former member of Arena, and Graham Sergeant, who has not one but two Royal Photographic Society Fellowships in the contemporary category.”
