Two very different theatrical productions are coming to Horsham Capitol Theatre next month.
On Wednesday, May 11, the venue presents Stones In His Pockets, a play by Marie Jones.
Two actors play a vast array of eccentric and likable characters in this universally loved, worldwide comic theatre sensation.
Written with poignancy and sincerity and performed at a breakneck pace, this play has made a deep connection with audiences in more than 30 countries.
A quiet Irish village community is turned upside down with the arrival of a Hollywood film crew, looking for the ‘real’ Ireland for their latest schmaltzy blockbuster.
A pair of extras, Charlie and Jake, watch with amazement, envy and delight as cultures clash, divas strop, and everyone fights over the last portion of lemon meringue pie.
The show, which starts at 8pm, is presented by The Theatre Chipping Norton and The Dukes Lancaster, in association with Oxfordshire Theatre Company.
Tickets cost £16 (Friends £15). The show is suitable for people aged 12 and above.
The next day (Thursday, May 12), audiences can enjoy something a little darker with At the Mountains of Madness.
Desperate, incensed and exhausted, William Dyer returns from a cursed expedition to the Antarctic.
To protect the world, he keeps deep secrets about his experience that he knows will shatter his sanity.
But as he comes to the realisation that the audience is planning to go further into the penetrating cold than he dared, will his secrets unfold?
Will he finally be resigned to speak?
Will he share the truth, and give us terrifying glimpses of ‘the horror of things that should not be?’
Theatre lovers have the chance to be taken into the untold world of the Antarctic, where they may stumble upon unnameable horrors that lie beyond The Mountains of Madness.
H. P. Lovecraft’s original novella was written in 1931 and is now regarded as a classic piece of ‘weird fiction’.
Tickets for the show cost £17.50 (concessions and Friends £13.50).
