THIS photograph, taken in Madeira Avenue, Worthing, was sent in by a Herald reader, who asked "is it one rule for them, and another for us?".
It shows an NCP Limited parking van on double yellow lines near the junction with Brighton Road, opposite the Aquarena.

Mandy Ainsworth, on-street parking services manager, said the vehicle had been parked half on the pavement to stop it becoming an obstruction for vehicles turning the corner.

It also meant there was room for a wheelchair to pass on the pavement.

She said any vehicle could park on double yellow lines, as long as it was not in a restricted area, for instance a bus stop or school crossing, and it was loading or unloading within five minutes.

Editor's comment

This vehicle did not receive a parking ticket. If we all parked our cars like this for five minutes all over town, there would be dangerous chaos.

Vote

Do you think the NCP Limited van should have been given a parking fine?

The final results were, 99 per cent voting for a parking fine, with 1 per cent against.
