The giant oak came crashing down just north of Balcombe Viaduct near farmland on the Balcombe estate, damaging a telegraph pole and chevron sign.

Tree surgeons and estate workers rallied round to make the area safe and clear the debris, using heavy lifting gear.

Out photographer, Steve Robards, took this video, which shows the scale of the oak and tree surgeons at work.
