Mike La-Traille, who runs the venue, explains: “The competition invited children between the ages of five and 15 to submit up to two photographs each. There was no theme so children could submit anything that took their fancy.

“There were two aspects to the judging; a public vote via the Facebook page (Pier Road Coffee & Art) where followers of the gallery spent a week voting for their favourite images. The second aspect was a judged category. The four judges, Emma O’Hara, Trevor Fryer, Claire Stevens and Hayley Croome, were very impressed by the standard of the work.”

Emma said “All the entries were of a very good standard.”

The winning public vote (Alfie Marcantonio – Misty Morning) and judged category (Dylan Ffowcs Williams – Robin) will be printed, framed and exhibited at Pier Road Coffee & Art in Littlehampton throughout January. The photographs will also be available to buy.

The next competition at the gallery is the January Blues Competition which is now into its fourth year. There are art, craft and photography categories which are open to amateur, professionals, students and hobbyists. “The venue is still open for take-away drinks, click and collect on art works and has a high online profile.”
