The non-profit event aims to address the ever-growing concerns about children’s reading habits and their interest in creative writing.

The ultimate aim is to ensure children can discover and sustain a lifelong love of reading and writing for pleasure, with the support of their parents.

All participants are donating their time. The Book Activist aims to tour the Roadshow across the South East and beyond, with a variety of participants and supporters, to reach as many parents as possible.

Gill Pawley from Inkpots writing workshops will be sharing her expertise on how to help children into creative writing.

She said: “I am delighted to be part of the first Bookchat Roadshow. I work with a wide range of children with differing abilities and I firmly believe that by nurturing their love of reading and books, we are helping support their development into balanced, happy young people.”

Gill has 35 years of experience as a publications editor and extensive training as a youth worker.

Jamie Thomson, author of The Dark Lord series, said: “I’m looking forward to helping parents getting kids reading and writing at the Bookchat Roadshow. Well, my books at any rate.”

Nikki Sheehan, author of Swan Boy, said: “I’m so excited to be taking part in the Bookchat Roadshow. As a reader, writer and story mentor with Little Green Pig, I’m very aware of the miracles that can happen when you allow children to take ownership of their reading and writing.

“There’s nothing better than the look on a child’s face when they realise that there really are no limits to the worlds they can explore and create, and as parents, teachers and librarians it really is within our power to help them to access to their own wildest imaginings.”

Victoria Dilly, founder of The Book Activist, worked as a school librarian for nearly 10 years and recently founded The Book Activist. She will be sharing her extensive knowledge gained from working with children aged 2-18 and tips for helping children develop a reading habit. As a mother of two teenage sons she fully understands the concerns parents can have about their children’s reading and writing.
