“It accompanies us in everyday activities, commuting to work, preparing a meal, sitting at our desks.

“We turn to music to lighten the mood, to find solace, to energise the moment. Music envelops and expands our emotional and intellectual lives. It is integral to our social and personal wellbeing.

“The performance will include excerpts from Wagner’s ‘Tristan & Isolde’, Ethel Smyth’s ‘Entente Cordiale’, Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’ Symphony and Mahler’s ‘Adagietto’ from Symphony No. 5.

“Caroline will be interviewed by Helen Kennedy, Deputy Head of the School of Arts, Design and Media at the University of Brighton.

“The conversation will continue in the Pavilion Music Room on Saturday, July 12, with ‘Quiet Please! A History of Noisy Audiences’ and in the autumn with events on Saturday, September 13, and Saturday, November 15.”
