Checkmates make move for Hassocks

Back in the ’90s, Raye Du-Val reformed The Checkmates. as the only surviving member from the original group.

The group had hits with ‘What do you want to make those eyes at me for?’, ‘Slow boat to China’ and ‘Them There Eyes’.

The original band had three female backing (doo-wop) vocalists.

The Checkmates have appeared at the London Palladium, The Cavern Liverpool and other venues around the country.

The band consists of Graham Frost (bass, vocals), Adrian Gregory (guitar, vocals) and Raye du-Val on drums.

Raye Du-Val created history when he was the triple winner of the world’s non-stop drumming marathon contest between 1959 and 1969. This was verified by the Guinness book of records. Raye also worked with international stars that include Matt Munro, Shirley Bassey, Dickie Valentine and many more. The gig starts at 8.30pm. Call 01273 845829.
