More than 50 years after it first formed, R&B band Dr Feelgood is in as much demand as ever.

Now, with early member John “Wilko” Wilkinson’s recovery from what was diagnosed as terminal cancer, it seems nothing will stop this favourite British rock band’s enduring popularity.

Wilko, and the late Lee Brilleaux, are Feelgood legends, and current vocalist Robert Kane is well on his way to becoming another epic hero in the group’s hall of fame.

On Saturday, December 6 (7.30pm), Kane with guitarist Steve Walwyn, bassist Phil Mitchell and drummer Kevin Morris will return to the Balcombe Club to play on the same stage that saw them perform just 18 months ago.

So successful was their gig then that the band has chosen this inauspicious village venue as the setting for a celebration of Kane’s 60th birthday.

Born on December 6, 1954, Kane says his inspiration as a vocalist was none other than John Lennon, while live shows are his favourite aspect of a long career that has seen him play with the Aligators, The Animals II and Well Well Well.

And judging by his last performance in Balcombe, Kane will be giving nothing to his six decades other than a massive kick of age-defying energy to his hugely charismatic performance.

Look out for what are his Feelgood favourites – the hits ‘Roxette’, ‘She does It Right’, ‘Sneakin’ Suspicion’, and ‘Milk & Alcohol’, among others.

This is a million miles from today’s manufactured bands and pop divas. Don’t miss the chance to see some true greats perform in Mid Sussex.

Dr Feelgood will be supported by Tune Raiders and Joker’s Pack. Tickets at £15 from the Balcombe Club 01444 811226, or Eventbrite on the website at www.balcombeclub.co.uk.
