Folk club’s festive party

AN Old Time Music Hall Christmas Party will see Horsham Folk Club celebrate their end of term on December 19, at the Normandy Centre, Denne Road, Horsham.

Club spokeswoman Caroline Thomas said: “Regular members are searching out their velvet hats, feather boas and long stripey skirts as well as practising classic music hall numbers ready for the party.

“The last music hall themed evening was held two years ago and was so enjoyable it is back by popular request. Guests are very welcome so come and join in the fun and there will be Christmas nibbles and mulled wine available at the club bar. In the true spirit of Christmas, admission is free for this session.”

Caroline added: “The Club will reopen on Sunday, January 9, with the not-to-be missed Resolution farewell concert. After 13 years of delighting audiences, Resolution have had to bow to geography and accept that it is not possible to maintain the standard they regard as essential now that they are spread around the UK.

“It was at Horsham Folk Club that Bonnie (lead singer with folk-rock band Touchstone) and Sally first heard Peter and Wol sing with the Full Shanty. The resulting get-together was a classic example of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts, with all of them insisting on a standard of musical precision beyond the norm.

“After two years Peter began to write songs for Resolution and the result is an outstanding contribution to the modern folk legacy with many of these beautiful songs now being sung around the country.”

Admission for the Resolution concert is £5 and £3 for members: tickets available from 7.45pm at the door. Under 18s free, all welcome.
