Grant helps with third tour

Horsham-based New Harmonie’s tour through Sussex continues with a third grant from The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust.

The grant means thatNew Harmonie is able to extend its Sussex quintet tour From Tin Pan Alley to Abbey Road - A Journey Through Popular Music, 1890s – 1960s. A further eight churches will host the concert over the next six months. Details of all these concerts are given on www.newharmonie.org.uk

On Sunday, November 6 at 6.30pm, St Marys Church, Windmill Lane East Grinstead RH19 2DS will be the venue for the fourth concert in this extended tour. Geoffrey Richardson (clarinet) and Sarah Williams (oboe) will tell the story and they will be joined by Liz Burtenshaw (flute), Sue Bellamy (bassoon) and Annie Barnard (horn) to play the music. The programme recalls in words and music the different fashions in popular music over the years - Vaudeville, ragtime, jazz, swing, dance bands, Broadway and the pop culture of the Beatles.

Geoffrey Richardson who leads the group said “We are most grateful to The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust. Through the generosity of the Trustees we are able to keep this entertaining programme going. It is a chance for local communities to come together, promote live performing arts, listen to a wind quintet and some of the great popular music of the 20th century. Anne Stone, who is churchwarden at the church and promoting the concert, said “ I am really looking forward to this concert, the programme is very varied and will appeal to a wide range of people. This will be an exciting evening, not to be missed.”
