IF YOU fancy wallowing in testosterone, blood and body parts then this is the movie for you.

After catching the trailer I was expecting more style than substance, but Immortals just about provides a decent storyline.

To be honest if you take away the amazing CGI work and impressive fight scenes the one thing that stands head and shoulders above the rest is the chief baddie.

Mickey Rourke makes a superb and quite believeable evil character.

He plays King Hyperion who doesn’t need minions to do his dirty work and who has a novel way of making his mark on his troops - literally by scarring them.

The action takes place many years after the Gods win thei punch-up with the Titans who are imprisoned in a box in a mountain.

Hyperion decided he wants to rule the world and is in search of the legendary Epiris Bow with which he can free the Titans and rule the world.

The Gods, headed up by Zeus (Luke Evans) have decided they won’t interfere - but Zeus has been grooming a young peasant Theseus (Cavill) in whom he entrusts the future of mankind.

If you liked the movie 300 then you’ll notice a similarity in the fight sequences, with slo-mo showing all the gory detail.

This is a big set film where nothing happens on a small scale. Even Theseus lives in a village carved out of a mountain by the sea.

Director Tarsem Singh does a very fair job to keep the pace cracking along.

But at the end of the day this is a simple good versus evil plot, although dressed up in fine clothes.

And as for the 3D? To be honest until the very final scene I wasn’t really the enthralled.
