Hurstpierpoint celebrated the 700th anniversary of St Lawrence Fair with all the colour and enthusiasm that befits a village with such community spirit.
Other communities were busy too - fighting hard to repel housing applications and the possibility of a new town development in Sayers Common.
But the focus of attention for much of the second half of the year rested on Balcombe where anit-fracking demonstrators gathered from all over the country.
