Modern way with watercolours

Watercolours the modern way is the promise behind Your Space Or Mine, a Chichester exhibition by Elaine Lokhandvala and Alison Sibley.

Alison believes “watercolour comes of age” in her hands and Elaine’s hands “as it sweeps and seeps, sparks light, is brash or gentle, vivid or subtle.

“Displaying both traditional and non-traditional techniques, the passion felt for this very English medium leaps off the walls,” she said. “Elaine builds her paintings layer by layer, creating an atmosphere and mystery that pulls you inside.”

Meanwhile, Alison describes herself as taking a headline and creating a work bursting with familiarity, life and movement.

Both artists will be demonstrating some of the ways they use the paint, including glazing and texture, on Saturday, May 7.

“This is an exhibition of mainly original work, with almost all the paintings available in affordable, top-quality prints and cards,” Alison said.

Your Space Or Mine runs until Saturday, May 14 at the Oxmarket Centre of Arts, Chichester.

Also at the exhibition, handbag designer, Jill Stringer, will be showing her silk, occasion bags. Alison is from Hurstpierpoint and Elaine is from Keymer.
