New Pelican crossing for Hassocks

The crossing will safeguard children and families on the busy A273 London Road.

County councillor for Hassocks, Colin Wilsdon, campaigned for the crossing through his membership of the South Mid Sussex County Local Committee, which is chaired by Sue Knight (also pictured).

Mr Wilsdon, who is stepping down at the next election, said: “The need for a crossing was mentioned in the village action plan about ten years ago.

“It is very important because of the new houses being built nearby and particularly now the Jack and Jill Playgroup has moved from St Francis Church Hall to the pavilion on the London Road Recreation Ground off Belmont Close.

“Although the speed limit was reduced from 40mph to 30mph some time ago, London Road is hazardous because of the volume of traffic.”
