Quartet provide a perfect first encounter with chamber music

The Horsham Music Circle opens its 73rd season on Saturday, October 18, at the Drill Hall (7.30pm) with a concert featuring some of the great classics of the piano quartet repertoire.

Spokeswoman Jill Elsworthy said: “This is a treat for enthusiasts of chamber music as well as a perfect introduction for those less familiar with this wonderful music. The artists will be the Primrose Piano Quartet.

“The quartet was formed in 2004 by pianist John Thwaites and three of the UK’s most renowned chamber musicians associated with some of the best-known string quartets.

“The group’s innovative programming has proved extremely successful on tours in the UK and abroad, as well as their own festival at West Meon in Hampshire, now in its fourth year.

“Leader of groups such as the Werethina, Edinburgh and Maggini string quartets Susanne Stanzeleit has released more than 25 CDs. Robin Ireland is the former violist of Domus and the Lindsays, one of the UKs foremost quartets with over 60 recordings. Fomer principal cellist with the Royal Philharmoni Orchestra, Andrew Fuller, is also known as a member of the Fibonacci Sequence and Primavera. In addition to performing relationships with the Schidlof, Maggini and Dante Quartets, pianist John Thwaites is duo partner to cellists Alexander Baillie and Johannesburg Goritzki.”
