Reggae band ready for intimate gig at Coolham

FOWOKAN and Gregg Kofi Brown perform at the small venue on Saturday, February 21.

Forged from their time together in Cymande, the legendary British funk band, FOWOKAN re-unites core member Sam Kelly (drums) with international reggae artist, Jimmy Lindsay.

In 2009 Jimmy performed at The British Lovers’ Rock Show where he received an award for his contribution to Lovers’ Rock and British Black Music.

Jamaican-born drummer, Sam Kelly has a lengthy legacy in the UK and international music scenes. He is highly respected for his ability across all genres including reggae, R&B, soul, jazz and funk. Sam has performed with a wealth of musicians including Dr. John, Chaka Khan and Gary Moore.

Gregg Kofi Brown, who is opening for FOWOKAN, has been a member of the world class African pioneers, Osibisa, for over 22 years. He has also worked with Isaac Hayes, Bomb the Bass and Finley Quaye and recorded and toured with many African and Caribbean artists.

Gregg has appeared in several hit London West End musicals including Tommy, The Blues Brothers and The Buddy Holly Story.

Sting collaborated with him on the single ‘Lullaby To An Anxious Child’ from Greg Kofi Brown’s album Together as One, which also features collaborations with Stanley Jordan, Gabrielle, Des’ree and Billy Cobham.

The gig starts at 8pm (doors 7.15pm). Tickets cost £20 with a fish and chip supper or £15 without. There is no licensed bar so people are advised to bring their own drinks and refreshments.
