Saxon church hosts charity concert

A unique concert in the Saxon church in Didling will be followed by drinks and canapés under the South Downs, raising money for the church's upkeep and also helping to sponsor children from families in need with their education at the Druk Padma Karpo School in Ladakh in the Himalayas through Live To Love UK.

The PoPuP event is at St Andrew’s Church, Didling on Saturday, July 9 at 7pm.

Spokesman Will Buchanan said: “This timeless Shepherds Church under the Downs is the setting for a candle-lit evening concert. Among the performers are Radio KWG, featuring the beautiful voice of Kylie Earl, singing songs inspired by the South Downs area and Phillip Jeays renowned singer songwriter.

“Steve Redshaw has been performing folk music for many years and collecting and preserving tunes from the British folk tradition and will perform tunes of the local area. WillB has performed throughout the south-east including Guilfest, Weyfest and the Undercover Festival with songs of Love and Stars. Poets will add spice and variation with Geoff Allnutt and Caroline Blackburn from South Africa, both highly regarded and entertaining performers. Expect the unexpected including pieces composed for the event inspired by the Church and surroundings.

“After the concert in the church there will be a reception under the DOWNS (undercover if weather requires) with canapés from the award winning chef Simon Goodman.”

Tickets £20 on 01730 813495 or 01428 652280.

Will added: “PoPuP put on events in the local area at interesting and unusual locations to help raise money for good causes with a local connection where a small amount of funds raised make a huge difference. This event comes with the blessing of the Parish of Harting with Elsted and Treyford cum Didling. Children welcome.”
