Big time for young dancers

Ten young dancers from the Chichester area will get a taste of the big time when they perform in The Nutcracker at the Kings Theatre, Southsea.

English Youth Ballet (EYB) held a highly-competitive audition at the Kings Theatre in May attended by over 200 young dancers.

The dancers - from Chichester and Bognor Regis - were selected at the audition and will appear in a professional production of The Nutcracker at the Kings for three performances from October 4–5.

The young dancers in the cast will dance alongside EYB’s principal artists in a professional production. They are currently experiencing the life of a professional ballet dancer, working at the King Richard School in an 11-day intensive rehearsal process.

Company manager Ben Garner said: “Working with English Youth Ballet will most probably be the highlight of these talented young dancer’s careers, to date. The audiences watching EYB are in for a unique and exciting experience too. They will be seeing both top international principal artists and the best up-and-coming young talent from their region – sharing the stage.”

The youngsters are Carly Jellett, Felpham Community College; Maria Howell, Bishop Luffa School; Isobel Appleby, Southsea School of Dancing; Siobhan Appleby; Rachel Booth, Bishop Luffa School; Jane Booth; Freya Chandler, Oakwood School; Charlotte Chrystall, Bishop Luffa School; Bibi Jones, St Phillip Howard Catholic High School; Eleanor Kyte, Bishop Luffa School; Jannette Kyte; India MacNally, Chichester High School for Girls; and Sophie Woodbridge, Birdham CE School.
