Danny’s Comedy Club going strong despite bad weather

Despite appalling weather on the night of their January show, the Birch Hotel venue was packed.

“It was amazing,” said the Club’s owner Daniel Kington. “We expected a low turnout as the wind was blowing the rain sideways and water was pouring down the street.

“Temperatures were near freezing and yet still they came in their droves to support the show and have a really good night out.”

Danny’s Comedy Club returns to the Birch Hotel, Haywards Heath, on February 28, with a brand new line up of acts, including Nigel Lovell (The Man In The Bowler Hat) who started his comedy career in 2010 under the name The Man in the Bowler Hat and instantly loved it. He’s been gigging ever since, travelling the length and breadth of Britain making audiences laugh. He was a finalist in the 2012 Newbury Comedy Festival’s You Must Be Joking Competition and has won the Ipswich Big Comedy Cheese competition.

Robin Cousins likes to call his act Surreal LITE: “Throw in some topical gags and some slightly skewed observations on life and mix with some longer autobiographical stuff.”

An Egyptian-Californian who started in London, Dalia Malek’s brand of dark, irreverent humour has helped her rapid progress on the comedy circuit. She shot to acclaim as a finalist at the Chortle Student Comedy Awards in 2012, just three months after staring out as a comedian.

London-based David Jesudason is in constant demand from clubs right across the country. An experienced and intelligent comedian, his act has a broad range of comedy, including storytelling, punchy one-liners, ad-libbed routines and relaxed crowd interaction.

There are many people trying to make it in the world of comedy and Josh Dolin is one of them. After performing in Sydney for a couple of years, he moved to London to make people laugh, sit quietly for a bit, then laugh again. Josh was the winner of Quest for the Best (Australian Competition) and was a So You Think You’re Funny Semi Finalist in 2013.

A regular performer since 2010, Şaban (pronounced Shaban) Kazim knows how to use his mixed Anglo-Turkish background to great comedic effect. His character-driven style draws upon his life experience, which includes anything from hilarious encounters at the Job Centre to buying a kebab. He recently performed at the premiere of Ben Miller’s (The Armstrong and Miller Show) debut film Huge at Leicester Square.

By courtesy of PBJ Management, Danny’s Comedy Club is proud to welcome up and coming headliner Mat Ewins. On only his 382nd gig and well before his fourth consecutive year of performing stand-up comedy, Mat Ewins won the Saltford heat of the North Somerset New Act Competition Sal Monello’s Comedy Gladiators.

From September onwards, Mat Ewins can be found regularly opening Gladiator weekends, doing corporates for centurions and auditioning for toga adverts.

Burgess Hill-based singer Natalie Howe will also be appearing. Her stunning voice has earned her the soubriquet of the white Whitney Houston.

Doors open at 7.30pm with curtain up at 8.30pm. The Club features comfortable, cabaret-style seating, a reasonably priced bar, good food and ample, free parking onsite.
