Fun for the family at Crawley Irish Festival

This year’s Crawley Irish Festival is set to showcase some great Irish entertainment at The Hawth on Sunday, August 30.

Now in its 19th year, the event provides a wonderful family day out, offering seven hours of music and craic.

There will be arts workshops, Irish dancing demonstrations and competitions, three live music stages, an open ceili, GAA sports on the big screen, a children’s play and educational arena, craft stalls and shops selling traditional Irish produce, arts and crafts, and much more.

The event is free and visitors are welcome from 12pm.

The 2015 line-up

Main Stage:

MC – Gerry Molumby.

12pm: Emerald Element.

1.30pm: Strawdogs.

2.30pm: Opening ceremony with Gerry Molumby introducing special guests.

3pm: John McNicholl.

4.45pm: Dun the Veil.

6.30pm: Main Stage closes.

Trad Stage:

MC Patrick O’Connell.

12pm: Brogue Irish Folk

1.15pm: Nuala Dalton (flute and vocals) and Friends. Ciaran Hanna on concertina, Chris McGuire on Box and Anthony McGrath on guitar.

2.30pm: Irish Mist.

4pm: The London Lasses and Chris O’Malley.

5.30pm: Arís with Chan. Reed on fiddle and vocals and Kevin Scanlon on guitar.

6.30pm: Traditional Stage closes.

Ceili Dancing Arena is a focal point where newcomers are always welcome to join in. Watch out for the future members of Riverdance with displays by local dance schools.

There will also be a seven-hour music session in the Bar Area. Celtic Crunch and Reel Strings provide the backbone to the music session, together with acts from across the festival. Each act provides 15-20 minute sessions throughout the day.

The Crawley Irish Festival is supported through funding by the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs; Emigrant Support Fund, Crawley Borough Council and West Sussex County Council.
