Great giggle for young people

She describes it as a great giggle for two to six-year-olds.

Packed with all favourite nursery rhymes including Old MacDonald and The Wheels On The Bus, Katy’s interactive live roadshow comes promised as a great way to spend an hour out of your day.

The show started about six months ago: “It’s a story about a sunflower. We have got to make our sunflower grow,” she explains. “That’s what it is all about. It’s just me and my friend who is a monkey!

“It’s quite surprising what appeals to different age groups. There are parts that appeal to older age groups and some of them to much younger. Monty The Monkey goes down well with three-year-olds that like animals from other worlds!

“There are also songs that children know. There is a lot of variety, but there is a lot of familiarity, but I like to change the songs as well.

“I really wouldn’t say that there is any educational content to my live show,” says Katy whose TV work includes the much more obviously-educational I Can Cook, the CBeebies flagship series.

The TV show combines all of her performance skills. The children learn how to grow it, cook it and eat it accompanied by songs which she sings and plays on her guitar.

Katy studied drama at the University of Exeter and achieved a first-class degree. While at university she was the head female vocalist for their jazz orchestra and during her holidays she embarked on a four-week intensive Commedia Dell’Arte course in Reggio Emelia in Italy.

There she honed her improvisation and characterisation skills. Since then she has worked as choir director and president of the Universities Soul Choir in addition to being choir director for Rock Choir Plus Ltd, based at the Manor Pavilion Arts Centre in Devon.
