Hawth announces auditions for big summer production

Following the sell-out success of its first-ever in-house production Treasure Island, The Hawth in Crawley has announced that summer 2021 will see a return to producing high-quality family-friendly performances at the theatre.

Director Sarah Slator returns to bring to life a brand-new production based on the traditional tales of the outlaw of Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood.

This contemporary retelling of the legend will feature live music and song along with “stage fights galore to delight, engage and entertain all ages”, they promise.

The Hawth is looking for talented local performers to join the professional cast. The Crawley venue is looking for confident actors and singers aged 16 and over to take to the stage in its woodland Amphitheatre from Thursday-Sunday, July 8-11.

The roles available are The Sheriff of Nottingham, Friar Tuck, Much (Robin’s best friend), King Richard, Robin Hood’s Merry Men, Sheriff of Nottingham’s guards and villagers.

All those auditioning by video are required to sing a song unaccompanied and perform an extract from the script which can be found at hawth.co.uk, under ‘Robin Hood Auditions’. The deadline for auditions to be sent to [email protected] is midday, Monday, April 12 2021.

Community cast members will have the opportunity to attend a free stage-combat workshop on Saturday, April 24 at The Hawth. The workshop is designed for people with little or no experience in stage combat and will be led by Andrew Ashenden, professional fight director.

Those auditioning must be able to commit to all rehearsals and performances at The Hawth. Rehearsals: June 25-July 8 inclusive, production week rehearsals during the day on July 6, 7, 8. Performances: July 8-11 inclusive.

Professional actors living within an hour of Crawley can also apply to audition for the roles of Robin Hood, Marion/Will Scarlet and Little John/Gisborne on Spotlight and Mandy. The professional auditions will be held via Zoom on Thursday, April 8 and Friday, April 9.
