Acting subject leader drama Sofia Dimoglou, who directed with Isobel McCall, said: “This was part of the Festival’s annual showcase of schools across the country performing Shakespeare, usually in theatres, but this year in their schools. It was a great success, despite the challenges of limited rehearsal time and having to work in year bubbles.

Students immersed themselves in the themes of Macbeth, with a live punk band, dancers, actors and over thirty year-nine students involved, including punk artwork by year 11 art captains.

“The students excelled themselves and many staff worked hard to be sure to make it happen, in spite of the semi-lockdown.”

Headteacher Tony Smith said: “Despite the challenges of lockdown and restrictions of Covid, a dedicated group of students have demonstrated commitment, reliance and determination to rehearse and deliver a punk version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.”

School librarian Alison Standen said: “What an absolute treat at the moment.

“Highlights for me were definitely the slick change of actors on stage. I loved how it flowed from scene to scene, a huge amount to learn in movement alone let alone the lines.

“Also the dancers/witches and the band but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole production and am astounded how you’ve managed with so much social distancing and regs etc to follow.”
