A midsummer’s treat of madness from Sussex Actors Studio

Following the success of last summer’s Romeo & Juliet, Sussex Actors Studio returns to the beautiful Ham Cottage amphitheatre at Highbrook, in the High Weald countryside near Ardingly, next week with another classic Shakespeare play.

SAS founders and directors Jonathan Goodwin and Robin Belfield have outstanding pedigrees to transform the raw talents of their pupils as they proved with last year’s production, and much can be expected of them this time around with their staging of A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Their training ground for young actors has also discovered the natural amphitheatre that has been exposed as a magical performing stage at Highbrook, between Ardingly and Horsted Keynes and it is worth venturing out with your picnic just to see this phenomenon, if not to see Titania, Oberon and Puck get up to their usual tricks.

Look forward to professionals Alex Packer and Kirsty Yates who perform alongside SAS’s current crop of newcomers in the roles of Oberon and Titania.

As Shakespeare reminded us, the course of true love never did run smooth, so expect high jinks in full flow as the Bard’s group of young people try to escape the pressure of peers, parents and exams.

Get ready for a midsummer’s treat of madness performed by what promises to be a talented young cast working with some gifted professionals.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs from Friday to Sunday, July 25 to 27, with five performances at varying times. Tickets: £10 (full), £6 (students and under 16s), available in advance from SWALK (Lindfield High Street) or on the door although it may be best to book in advance as seating at the amphitheatre is limited by its natural constraints. Bring chairs and blankets as the grounds open an hour before start for people to picnic.

In the event of persistent rain leading up to a performance, an alternative venue may be announced via SAS’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Performances are sponsored this year by SWALK of Lindfield and the Orchards shopping centre.
