SATURDAY, AUGUST 6

BISHOPSTONE SUMMER FETE: Starting 12pm, Bishopstone Village Green and in the Parish Hall. The event kicks off with the Pop- Up Choir. Seaford Silver Band, refreshments including bacon rolls, home-made cakes, beer and ice cream. Craft stalls, books, plants, linens, gifts, cakes and preserves, bottle tombola, linens, bric-a-brac and a great raffle. For younger visitors there is a toy stall and tombola, games, face-painting and tattoos and Punch and Judy shows at 1pm and 3pm. Dogs welcome for the fun dog show, (registration 1pm, show 2pm). Donations welcome – books, bric a brac, (not electrical goods or large, heavy articles) toys and games, plants, linens, craft materials, unwanted gifts. WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS: Weald & Downland Open Air Museum. Fun-packed activity days for children every Wednesday in August. Accompanied children can enjoy trying a wide range of arts, crafts and traditional countryside activities. Each day will have a theme based on the elements: Fire – try blacksmithing (for children aged eight years and over), outdoor cooking and natural dyeing. Earth: have a go at wattling, daubing, brick making and brick laying. Air: watch falconry, sail a model boat and enter the mini-parachute challenge. Water: learn about water power, wells, water carriers and more. Wear clothes for playing outdoors. Dogs on leads welcome, ample free parking. Regular entry charges apply, museum open 10.30am-6pm.
