Show creator and musician Dino Buttarazzi says it’s a show now approaching a decade of on-stage success, featuring an anthology of classic hits including ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’, ‘Bye Bye Baby’ and December 1963 (Oh What A Night!).

“I originally started the show in 2005, and it took us two years to get the show together. It is a very vocally heavy show, as you can imagine. We will be coming up to the tenth anniversary of first doing the show in June 2017.

“It’s a theatrical concert. What we do is give the audience what Jersey Boys doesn’t. Jersey Boys is still a musical, and you are only getting snippets of the songs. We give the whole thing less story and more music. Both are great shows, but we really do something that is different.

“There is no denying it’s the music that makes it special. When you listen to the music and when you are having to break it down, you realise just how clever it is. And you can still see the influence it has had… The Eagles, The Beach Boys, Queen, all those vocal-heavy shows are just so influenced by it… and also Billy Joel. Brian May talks about The Four Seasons a lot, and The Four Seasons tour with The Beach Boys.

“Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons was the first time in music where a falsetto was the leading line as opposed to being part of the harmony line, and of course, since then you have also had people like The Bee Gees. But before Frankie Valli, you had barbershop and doo-wop in the 1930s. You can follow it through.

“I play guitar and sing as well. Everybody plays and sings. We have found there have been quite a few shows that have tried to copy us, but they always make the mistake of just standing in front of the microphone and singing. The point is Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons was a band. We are actually playing live. You have got to do that. Some of the other shows have just got backing tracks or a session band behind them. We are the real thing, playing real live music.”

The show plays more than a hundred dates a year: “That’s great, doing the show. The travelling can be a problem, but we have gone all over the world – less and less now because there is more demand in the UK. We would love to stay here, though we have been doing some international stuff as well. We just like to think that we have got really great singers.”

There have been changes over the years but, as Dino says, generally it has been a question of adding, rather than taking away, as the show became bigger.

“We are always looking at ways of improving what we do.”
