Update: Man ‘abducted’ in Crawley still not found

Police believe a man could have been forced into a vehicle in Crawley and driven off.

Sussex Police was called to an altercation between him and two other men just before 10pm in Broadfield on Monday (May 25).

A spokesman said the men entered a car, which was believed to be a silver BMW, before it was driven off from Rona Close, off Lismore Crescent.

Detective Inspector Rachel Carr said: “We need to find out who the man is and need to speak to him in order to establish that he is safe and well.

“Officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries and we are treating this as a serious incident.”

A spokesman said the car’s front windscreen was smashed during the altercation.

Sussex Police was called by members of the public in Rona Close shortly before 10pm. Officers searched for the vehicle and were at the scene for a number of hours.

A spokesman said detectives were establishing exact descriptions of the men involved.

She added: “At this stage we are investigating an incident involving a male who got into a vehicle, we are unsure if this was against his will and are keeping an open mind.

“We are appealing to the man involved in this incident to ensure he is safe and well and also to the public to help us establish the exact details of what has happened.”

Residents described their shock and fear following the incident.

Valentine Ogwu, of Rona Close, said: “It’s shocking. I have lived here since 2009 and I have never know anything like this happening.’’
