Sunday September 29, 10am: Meet at Church Hill car park on the B2188, 2 miles north of the junction with the B2026 at Kings Standing car park on Ashdown Forest (TQ 495326). The Gummidges of Groombridge. On the north-east edge of Ashdown Forest we venture into the strange world of Worzel Gummidge in the remote community of Motts Mill and meet up with some of the imaginative creations entering the annual scarecrow competition. We return to the real world via Buckhurst Park and Withyham village. 8½ miles. The route gets a bit hilly. Pub en-route or at the finish. Please bring a picnic lunch. Dogs welcome on a lead. (Parking in any short stay car park in Hurstpierpoint is limited to two hours between 8am and 4pm on Saturdays and requires a MSDC parking disc available for £1 from: Parish Council Office, Library, Trinity road, Post Office, 80 High Street, Charity Shop Village Green, Co-op, 93 High Street.) Hurstpierpoint Circular walk to the South. Festival Walk 3 of 3. Wanbarrow Farm – Locks Green Cottages – Newtimber Church – Wolstonbury Hill – Ashen Plantation – Danny – car park. 6 miles (approx 3 hours). Leader: Brian J.

Tuesday October 1, 10.30am: Meet at Glynde Village car park (recreation ground) GR 122/TQ 457808. (Train from HH 09.35 change Lewes arrives Glynde 10.14. Return trains at 23 minutes past each hour.) The Quarry Trail. Mount Caburn – Oxteddle Bottom – Martyr’s Memorial – Malling Down (picnic) Saxon Cross – Glynde Place – Glynde. 300 metres total ascent but worth it. 7½ miles.
