Haywards Heath was built up around the railway line, which gives easy access into Brighton and into London and makes Mid Sussex classic commuter territory.

It is the most affluent district in Sussex and has a powerful sense of community which lies behind the success of its busy events calendar.

The towns are centres for growth and renewal, with a major regeneration project underway in the centre of Burgess Hill and a masterplan to breathe new life into Haywards Heath's centre also underway.

It is home to Wakehurst, Kew's botanic garden in Sussex, which stands at Ardingly next to the county showground.

Overall the district has a population of 150,000, with great pressure to build more homes.

Major employers including First Central, Fairfax developers and Collinson and it is part of the Gatwick Diamond.

Mid Sussex has a strong number of supporters for Brighton FC and Sussex CCC. Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill football clubs both play in the Isthmian League South East Division.
