The organisers of the Jim Clark Rally have confirmed that the memorial competition will be run in 2019, following a four-year hiatus.

The rally was run on closed public roads around the Scottish Borders, close to the F1 champion’s birthplace of Duns, from 1970 until 2014, when three spectators were killed.

Following those deaths and another at the Snowman Rally in 2013, the rally and other closed road motorsport events were cancelled while the Scottish Government investigated how to allow such events to run safely.

It has now passed new regulations which bring Scotland into line with England and Wales and mean local authorities can authorise the closure of roads and suspension of traffic regulations.

Changed dates

The rally was previously held in late May on the roads around Duns but organisers have decided to move it to later in the year to avoid clashes with other motorsport events.

They have now announced November 8 and 9 as the planned dates for the rally, following discussions with Police Scotland and Scottish Borders Council.

In previous years the rally has been run on a number of stages close to Duns in the eastern Scottish Borders. Organisers have not release details of the planned stages for this year, saying they are still finalising details.

In a statement, they said: “A number of options with regard to route and timetable have been evolving at Rally HQ and once final plans have been completed, more details will be revealed in due course.”
