Collyer’s bursary success for ‘outstanding’ new students from across Mid Sussex

Collyer’s has presented bursaries to a group of new students in recognition of their outstanding results at school.

Bursaries were awarded to those joining the Collyer’s community from partner schools, including Oathall Community College and Warden Park Secondary Academy, and to those students achieving top grades from north, south, east and west of Horsham.

Seren Billson, Hari Gunturu, Meilin Hixson and Lily Howe were among those presented with a cheque by principal of Collyer’s Dan Lodge.

Mr Lodge said: “It is important that Collyer’s recognises the outstanding work of our excellent partner schools, by rewarding some of our new students for their academic success in year 11.

“We attract students from right across the region, so it is fitting that we should also reward those coming to us from farther afield.

“I’m sure the money will be put to good use to help support their education or extra-curricular activities while at Collyer’s.”

Hari said she was extremely grateful for the support she received from her family and the work ethic instilled during her time at Oriel High School.

She added Collyer’s had helped ‘develop a growth mindset in approaching this next stage of education with inspiration to be as successful as I most possibly can.

She said: “My politics, history, and sociology teachers at Collyer’s are exceptionally supportive.”

Meilin, who joined from partner school Warden Park was delighted.

She said: “I am very grateful for this award and for the support and guidance from my teachers at Warden Park. I am enjoying my time at Collyer’s and look forward to the opportunities ahead.”

Steve Martell, deputy principal, told the students: “You’ve all made a great start to life at Collyer’s and I’m confident that your individual success stories can continue into advanced level and beyond.

“Particular thanks to all the teaching and support staff at Oathall Community College and the Warden Park Secondary Academy.

“They are amazing schools who continue to provide a brilliant education for so many of our students.”
