The museum showcases the work of a unique community of artists who settled in Ditchling from the beginning of the 20th century onwards.

Many of the extraordinary people associated with Ditchling have work included in the museum, which is close to the church in the centre of the village.

The artists featured include silversmith Dunstan Pruden, whose grandson Anton, an accomplished silversmith in his own right, advised the museum on exhibits showcasing his grandfather’s work.

The most famous artist in the Ditchling group was Eric Gill, a British sculptor, typeface designer, stonecutter and printmaker whose unorthodox private life has drawn much attention over the years.

Other artists, whose work features in the museum’s impressive collection include the father of modern calligraphy, Edward Johnston and artist David Jones.

We will be running a two page feature on the new museum in next week’s Mid Sussex Times out on Thursday, September 26. The museum opens at 11am this Saturday.
