The school in Haywards Heath was visited by a team of five inspectors last month.

They observed 52 lessons, met with students, teachers, senior leaders, the governing body and representatives from the local authority over two days.

The final report published praised teaching standards, pupil behaviour and the school’s leadership and management.

Ofsted said: “The headteacher, the senior leadership team and the governing body have a clear vision for the direction of the school.

“Their actions have brought about improvements to standards of teaching and students’ achievement and they have the ambition to take them to the very highest levels.”

The inspection team reported that students typically have good, and in some cases, exemplary attitudes to learning.

It noted that the quality of teaching, like examination results, is good and improving.

And it reported in its comments that the proportion of Year 11 students who remain in education, training or work on leaving school is significantly above average.

Analysis of the 96 responses to parental and carers’ questionnaires showed that the school is regarded highly with many saying that they would recommend the college to other people.
