Warden Park Academy Teacher, Shubs Hore, set his students the task of choosing which charity to support with fundraising.

Each student was required to give a presentation which was then voted for.

Year 10 student Alanna Price gave the winning presentation which went over the work done by The Disabilities Trust.

Alanna said: “I really wanted to show off all the good work that is done by The Disabilities Trust, and to demonstrate how it makes such a difference to the lives of people with severe disabilities.”

The Disabilities Trust provides accommodation and support for people with complex and high dependency needs, giving independence and lifestyle choices for adults with a range of disabilities.

It forms part of the nationwide network of support services provided by The Disabilities Trust, including two services within Mid Sussex; Ernest Kleinwort Court in Burgess Hill, and Holyrood in Lindfield, as well as community houses.

The team of ten students are undertaking a range of activities to raise money including washing cars, baking and selling cakes and a raffle, with one of the main prizes being a huge 4.5kg bar of Toblerone!

Shubs Hore said: “I am really pleased with the way our students have embraced the idea of working to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.

“They have spent a long time researching and planning their fundraising efforts and deserve a lot of credit for their endeavours.

“As an academy, Warden Park realizes the importance of being a key part of the community and for local people to see what a great bunch of young people we have here.”

“Every penny raised makes a difference to the lives of our service users.”

The money raised will go towards the ConnectAbility campaign run by the Trust, raising money for specialist communication technology for their service users with severe and multiple physical disabilities.
