Thanks to the likes of Olivia Newton-John and Jane Fonda, the 1980s spawned the world’s somewhat sweaty obsession with aerobics and fitness.
They also introduced us to leg warmers – for which they should never be forgiven.
In Bolney, Kay Hall, of The Coach House, was way ahead of the game. She had been doing yoga for years before Olivia encouraged us all to get Physical.
These pictures were published in the Mid Sussex Times on August 22 1980 and show Kay and her friends exploring “the path to tranquillity”.
Kay said: “The human system can very much be compared with that of a motor vehicle – get it finely tuned and it will run to perfection without giving any trouble in many a long year.
“Treat it badly and it will break down on you.”
Considering Kay was heading for retirement age when the article was published, she could certainly put some of the younger generation to shame when it came to keeping in shape.
Does anyone know who the other ladies in the photos are? Are any of them still living in Sussex?
