Old Crocks Run hits 25th anniversary

The silver anniversary of the London to Brighton Classic Car Run for vehicles over 25 years old takes place on Sunday June 2.

The ‘old crocks run’ through picturesque countryside, starts from Brooklands Museum and ends at Brighton Racecourse and passes through the heart of Mid Sussex.

So far the oldest entry has been a supercharged 1936 MG PB and the rarest a convertible Citroen Traction-Avant that is unique in the UK and one of only 60 worldwide.

Organisers say the most unusual entrant in the event this year is Kevin Browne’s Daimler Ferret Scout Car (Pictured).

Built in 1953 as a lightly armoured reconnaissance vehicle, this Ferret served in Jordan, Germany, and Northern Ireland.

Also, lining up for this year will be regulars Nigel Fisher and his wife in their Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, who will be participating in the run for the 24th time!

Two routes are available to accommodate the needs of older and more modern vehicles.

The longer run is of 100 miles with a stop at Chiddingstone Castle in Kent, while the shorter run of about 70 miles takes in picturesque Sheffield Park.

The routes are followed on easy-to-use ‘tulip-style’ maps. Last year the youngest map reader was eight years old.

All entrants are encouraged to dress in period attire and there is a special award for the best dressed team.

Owners of modern day sports cars and kit cars are also catered for, with a separate run that is now in its 13th year.
