Celebration ofNovello forcity festival

Chichester’s Amy Fuller is back in her home city with her singing group All That Malarkey for a celebration of Ivor Novello, the man and his music.

Narrated by Sarah Badel and devised by Roger Redfarn, the show will be at the Grace Centre on July 9 at 7.30pm (tickets £15 and £12 to include a glass of wine on www.festivalofchichester.co.uk in aid of the Aldingbourne Trust).

Novello had one of the most successful careers in the history of British theatre as an actor, writer and composer.

His world-famous songs are full of melody and romance – aspects All that Malarkey will capture for Chichester.

Amy said: “We are thrilled to be returning to Chichester to perform in the Festival.

“To work with Roger again and pay tribute to Ivor Novello this year will be a fantastic experience for us.

“As an operatic cabaret group All That Malarkey are used to performing more contemporary works, popular classics that are found in today’s Novello Award, Ivor’s lasting legacy that honour artists every year - many that are perhaps more familiar to our generation.

“As a group, we can’t wait to pay tribute to the man behind the awards and put our Malarkey spin on a beautiful selection of some of Novello’s most pivotal works.”

A former Bishop Luffa pupil, Amy is currently studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama where All That Malarkey has developed. The idea is to deliver operatic versions of contemporary music.

“It was not really something that we had intended to take that much further.

“We started with a few shows at college, and it just went down so well.

“We thought that people would think that you shouldn’t mix contemporary and opera or that people would think we were taking the mick. But people found it hilarious or really clever.”

For the singers, it’s all part of preparing their future.

As Amy says, the college likes to see its students putting on concerts and events and promoting themselves – tasks they will certainly have to tackle as the professionals of the future.
