Chance to get up close to crime writers

It is part of the 2012 Chichester Festivities which sees a number of art and music events take place across the city during the next three weeks.

The authors, who will kick-start this year’s festival with their appearances at the branch, include the 2012 Galaxy National Book award winner S J Watson.

The bestselling writer will be talking about his most popular novel: ‘Before I Go To Sleep’ at the branch from 7.30pm on Wednesday July 11.

He will also be joined by Cath Staincliffe, scriptwriter for popular television series ‘Blue Murder’, as well as Arundel-based playwright Simon Brett.

Readers can also hear from psychological thriller writer, Sophie Hannah, when she visits the branch at 7.30pm on July 5.

The international bestseller will be speaking about her latest book: ‘Lasting Damage’, as well as handing out advice to budding authors.

A panel of four top murder mystery writers will be revealing some of the secrets of their trade and discussing their own experiences at 7.30pm on July 2.

They include ghost writer for the books based on the ITV series ‘Rosemary and Thyme’, Rebecca Tope, detective novelists, Amy Myers and Priscilla Masters, as well as medieval mystery writer Cassandra Clark.

There are also day-events for children and teenagers including the chance to meet award-winning children’s and teens’ writer Vanessa Curtis at 2.30pm on Saturday July 7.

She will be reading extracts from her first ghost story for teens: ‘The Haunting of Tabitha Grey’, based on a Sussex manor, about a young girl who sees dead people after moving into a mansion.

Lionel Barnard, County Council Deputy Leader who oversees the Library Service, said: “These events are a great way to kick-start this year’s Chichester Festivities and get up close with some of Britain’s most popular thriller writers.

“As a great personal fan of the genre I would recommend that as many people as possible come along to this event.”

“There is something for everyone and you do not have to be a member of the library to join in.

“Tickets for each event cost £3 each but are free for children.”
