New bandroom for band

Chichester City Band now boasts a new home in Bognor Regis, from which it intends to raise its profile.

Spokeswoman Karen Crossley said: “Having rehearsed in and around various locations in the City, it is great to have the offer of a new band room. Local transport company S & G Transport offered us the use of what was an old works canteen. This enables us to set up all our percussion as well as giving us storage for instruments and a vast library of music.

“Having been a bit low profile for the past few years, the band intends to appear more often in both Chichester and Bognor Regis. We also hope to play a few more concerts in the area.

“The band are looking to recruit more players locally. If you have ever played a brass instrument or would like to learn, we would like to hear from you. We have a team of experienced players who can tutor you.”

Band chairman Howard Smith said: “Sadly there seems to be a problem getting young players to keep playing once they have completed their education. It’s such a waste. The Saturday morning Music Centre in Chichester has 500 kids learning, yet bands and orchestras struggle to find enough players.”
