Seraphim at Arundel Festival

Singer and lead guitarist Paul Dickson, of Barnham, said: “I have been playing with the drummer for about two years. I got introduced to him through a friend and we started jamming. About a year or so ago, we started picking up other members. The current format in the band has been together for about eight months now.”

Currently a five-piece, they feature – alongside Paul – Bethany Spink on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Torva Ventus Walmsley on keyboards, Jamie Warmington on bass on

Darren Gadd on drums.

As Paul says, the band’s distinctive sound and style come from constant experimentation with different genres and the combined efforts of musicians who are well versed in diverse styles of music.

Over the course of 2011-2012, they have played venues in Chichester, Arundel, Worthing, Southampton and Brighton.

“It’s based on rock music,” Paul says, for whom the likes of Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen are important.

On the EP, the band wrote the first song, Paul the second and Bethany the last: “The music goes from quite light rock to kind of heavier. We try to go for as wide a range as possible rather than getting stuck in one form. It means that we appeal to more people. The problem with a lot of other bands is that they have got just one style and they stick to it and every gig and every song sounds the same. Our idea is to get away from that as much as possible.

“This is our first proper EP now. This is our current sound. We have had some interest from a record label and we know one of the bands that are signed to the label. They have recorded an album with them. Hopefully we are going to do a gig at The Railway Inn in Winchester and something will come of that interest.”
