'˜The biggest coffee morning in the world' raises hundreds

Coffee mornings have taken place across the Mid Sussex region this weekend to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Toni Ross was one member of the community who organised a coffee morning for the national annual coffee morning, which turned out to be an all-day affair.

Ms Ross held the event at BPM Dance Academy in memory of her late father, GP Dr Ben Ross, who died in July.

She said: “I was just so touched by everyone’s generosity.

“The kids and parents really pulled together.”

One little girl, Alice Upsdell, age nine handed over a jar with £16 that she had been saving.

Ms Ross said: “If everyone could be like her, what a difference it would make.”

More than 150 people came to donate money in exchange for a slice of homemade cake and a cup of tea or coffee raising £257.02 for the cancer charity.

The mother of one said she was very touched when someone told her they had come to the event because her father had meant so much to the community. Mishon Mackay estate agents in Hurstpierpoint also joined in ‘the world biggest coffee morning’ raising £192.45.

Della Mold raised £500 together with Bolnore village residents.

Ms Mold said: “It was a fantastic turn out I had friends, family and local business’s come along or donating, AJS BARBERS Haywards Heath, Katherine, Bly Floral Designs, Starbucks coffee shop, Bay tree coffee shop, Oh Sew Happy, Co-op in Bolnore and Flinders coffee shop.

Usborne books attended the event and donated a percentage of their takings to Macmillan. Sammy Best organised a coffee morning with at St Francis social club raising more than £300.
