The Bishop of Chichester has broadcast his New Year’s message to the diocese.

Serving the people of Sussex by strengthening the common purpose of the Church of England locally is message in the personal New Year message from Dr Martin Warner, broadcast on YouTube.

Dr Warner reflects on a series of specially organised visits to parishes and communities right across the Diocese which took up the majority of his time throughout 2014.

He met thousands of people in a variety of different contexts and he emphasises the ‘joy and hope amongst those who I met’ as he travelled the region.

In the video the Bishop said: “Together we have had something to celebrate. Here the promises of God held good.”

Every community across Sussex is served by an Anglican parish and community engagement ranges across a wide raft of activities including, of course, Church of England schools.

Dr Warner said: “As we look towards 2015, and the putting into action of some of the results of my recent visitation to the Diocese our work in parishes and schools could not be more important.”

He adds next year will be about ‘strengthening our common purpose locally’ to serve the ‘people of Sussex in our churches and schools’.

Dr Warner said: “I need to look at this in my own life...setting aside more stillness time – finding space for true reflection.”
