Bolney primary school closed due to lack of water

A spokesman for the school in Bolney, Haywards Heath, confirmed the closure and said: “We can’t open without any water. We are still waiting for an oil delivery too, so we are cold as well.

“We had to close early a few days last week due to the weather. We are waiting to hear from South East Water, we just don’t know.

“We have no flushing toilets and can’t wash plates in the kitchen, so we can’t open until it’s back on.”

There is water supply problems across the south east and South East Water has said this has put ‘extreme pressure’ on their network, causing burst pipes across the region. Read our story here.

Agencies are working together to address the issue.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Sussex Police, East Sussex and West Sussex Fire and Rescue, East Sussex and West Sussex County Council and, Southern Water and South East Water are regularly meeting to provide a coordinated response to this issue and make sure everyone in the county is safe.

“Following the recent adverse weather and rapid thaw there has been multiple water problems across the area, mainly East Sussex.

“A number of bursts water pipes have been identified and 22,000 people currently have no water.

“Properties in Cuckfield, Warninglid, Burgess Hill, Wadhurst, Maresfield, Beckley, Peasmarsh, Iden and Crowborough are affected.

“Please do not use water for anything which isn’t essential if you are in areas affected.

“Anyone with concerns is asked to check on South East Water (https://www.southeastwater.co.uk/my-water-supply/water-supply-problems-across-the-south-east) and Southern Water (https://www.southernwater.co.uk/) websites.
