The Albourne-based craft brewery’s new ale is inspired by the American pale ales, but offers the subtlety, balance and refinement that comes from using UK-grown ‘cool climate’ hops.

Head brewer Fabio Israel said: “This is a sessionable pale ale that borrows inspiration from the US but uses all-British hops, resulting in a refined and more delicate beer – nonetheless, complex in flavour profile. In essence, it’s a pale ale for a more discerning drinker.

“Creating the beer was a natural progression from our Pilsner, which we launched last year. Feedback from our customers is that they wanted to see another kegged offering from us, something that equalled the Pilsner in quality and flavour. We think we’ve delivered that.”

A statement from the brewery said: “Using single filtration in the brewing process has resulted in a subtle and more refined Pale Ale, yet still recognisable in style, and still packed with flavour.

“The mix of Bramling Cross, Target and a new UK Cascade hop – all grown in Herefordshire and Kent – contribute notes of lemon citrus, lychee and blackcurrant, with the cascade hop variety added late for aromas of orange and pine on the nose.

“The mix of Maris Otter Pale Ale malt and Cara malts balance the brew, which comes in at a very sessionable 4.8 per cent ABV.”

Apart from the new pale ale, Bedlam produces a pilsner and four cask-conditioned beers - a three-hopped IPA, a golden ale, an amber ale, and a porter.

Bedlam Brewery was started as a hobby by a group of friends in 2012, but began to expand after finding commercial success locally.

Recent deals with Metropolitan Pub Company, Indigo Leisure and Pigs Ears Beer Cellar saw Bedlam being stocked in more than 100 venues across London and the South-East.
