A bright star over Lindfield

Visitors to Lindfield over the festive season must have thought they had entered a scene from the Christmas story, for shining high above them was a wondrous star.

Made from 7ft bamboo canes and 340 LED lights, the star shone out over the High Street after being mounted on 100ft high scaffolding surrounding All Saints Church.

The building is undergoing repairs to the brickwork, spire and windows and the scaffolding provided the perfect support for such an important symbol of Christmas.

Associate Vicar Stuart Silk constructed the star with church member Ken Markham.

Stuart said: “The responses we’ve had since we lit it have been staggering. It was a lovely idea and was a great way to get people talking about the church at Christmas.”

On Christmas Eve alone more than 1000 people walked through the doors to attend three Christingle services.
