Brighton Mainline passengers face ‘chaos’ at stations after long delays

Haywards Heath rail passengers stuck on trains for five hours in ‘intolerable’ temperatures have been rescued by firefighters or taken to stations.

One commuter described the situation as ‘farcical’ after arriving at Wandsworth Station where buses were promised.

Jason Parker @jdsp1974 said: “Truly farcical scenes now. Off at Wandsworth, promised a bus. No buses. They’ve only had 6 hours to arrange.”

The severe disruption came amid emergency engineering works because of a fault between Wandsworth and Clapham Junction.

The services are expected to be delayed until the end of the day (April 30).

Southern Rail’s website states: “Clapham Junction -In reaction to electrical supply problems in the Clapham Junction area services in and out of Victoria have been suspended until further notice.

Gatwick Express is currently suspended. Services into and out of London Bridge are severley delayed in reaction to this incident.”
