ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION: At our meeting in November we welcomed Mike Cohen, who came to talk to us about Guide dogs, he brought with him Richard and his guide dog Annie and Richards friend Donna. Mike told us how guide dogs started in WW1 with German Alsatians to help the wounded soldiers and the dogs help people with sight loss to lead a fulfilling life. Richard then explained how much easier his life is with Annie and answered questions about what Annie does to help him on a day to day basis. Mike informed us that it costs a lot to train guide dogs and that an owner could have 6 dogs over their lifetime. The Branch Chairman of the local association Richard Goldsmith also came along with his wife Sue and brought lots of items to sell to help raise the funds needed to train the guide dogs.
